ANALYSIS & DIAGNOSTIC OF FUELS

Analysing and checking fuels, biofuels and other fuels (fuel, domestic fuel, diesel, petrol, etc.) has taken on a non-negligible importance during the last years faced with the arrival of new engines (common rail, pump injection).

ANALYSES AND CHECKED POINTS (EXAMPLES)

COMPOSITION AND PERFORMANCE OF THE PRODUCT

• Density
• Distillation (distillation cuts)
• “Biodiesel” (FAME) or “Biopetrol” (Ethanol) (compliance with regulations)
• Iode number : determines the origin of the vegetal oil and meets the requirement of standard EN14214 characterising the FAME incorporated into diesel fuel
• Cetane number (capability of the fuel to self ignite)
• Ash content : measures the risk of producing unburnt substances during combustion
• Flash point (a safety criterion, measuring the flash point also allows the presence of light petrol fractions to be detected in the diesel fuel in case of tank filling error)
• Sulphur (validation of compliance with regulations and also estimation of the impacts on the exhaust gas treatment systems)

CONTAMINATION

• Full contamination (presence of solid contamination)
• Micro-organisms (yeasts, bacteria, fungus) which can cause clogging of filters and damage to injection systems
• Additives (presence)
• Water (condensation, bottom of tank, risk of corrosion and seizure of pumps)
• Acidity : evaluation of the risk of oxidation and abnormal contamination

• Cloud point
• Pour point
